WEDNESDAY, JUNE 24, 2009 (5:00pm- 7:00pm)

Theme : Georgia On my Mind

We have been Mulling this over for some time now. And being that this involves some history it may come across as a little Dry. I will try and Spice things up a bit! We are going to taste many wonderful Georgia wines that correspond with Georgia’s extensive history.

Chestatee Red: This wine represents the Cherokee Indians in the area before settlers arrived. The Cherokees lived and worked in the area but were eventually kicked out because gold was found in Georgia. The Cherokees were moved to Oklahoma, this trip out west is now called the Trail of Tears.
13th Colony: This wine represents the founding of Georgia as the 13th colony. Georgia was founded by James Edward Oglethorpe in 1732.
Ace Family Reserve. We have Uncorked this bottle to honor the families of Marietta and Cobb County, whose names grace our streets and avenues.
Chateau Elon. This wine was chosen because Marietta was once considered a resort town. Some came to Marietta to spend their summers escaping the heat. Others came to Marietta during the winter because the winter weather was so mild.
Creek Stone. This wine was chosen to represent the “healing” springs in Georgia. The springs in Warm Springs, Georgia were home to President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Little White
House. In Marietta we had Dr. Cox’s “Water Cure” located off of Tower Road.
These few wines were picked so you can see just how Intoxicating history really can be!!

THE MARIETTA MUSEUM OF HISTORY

The Marietta Museum of History located in Marietta, Georgia. Open since 1996, our museum is housed on the second floor of the historic Kennesaw House. Originally a cotton warehouse built in 1845, it was remodeled to become the Fletcher House Hotel in 1855. During the Civil War the hotel temporarily served as a makeshift hospital and morgue. For this reason, the building has become the subject of many stories and local ghost folklore. This notoriety has led to appearances on CNN, The History Channel and PBS.
